Jagtvej 111 was the transformation of a warehouse from the 19th century into an assortment of 2 condominiums and 45 student apartments, along with associated common spaces and outdoor areas.
Our role as architect, engineer, coordinator and consultant included roof terraces and courtyard adjustments in cooperation with the technical department of the municipality of Copenhagen.
The property has been divided into a front house with 2 condominiums, and a rear extension with student apartments, creating a linear built mass.
Emphasis on façade
The front façade stands out from the otherwise uniform buildings on Jagtvej, both in terms of color and architectural expression. This is because the front building was part of Copenhagen’s suburban area in the 1870’s, characterized by gardens and scattered construction. The rear part was constructed in 1911, as a factory building to the front house. only later were they joined into one.
Modern outlook on historic expression
It was important to respect both the historic façade and the raw industrial nature of the space enclosed by it. The warehouse-like quality is developed on and expressed through the exposed concrete look of the floors in the apartments, highlighted by strategically placed windows, letting in plenty of daylight. The open kitchens further the minimalist framework.
Redefining functionality
Functionality has been key in the spatial design of each apartment. Natural light and an airy atmosphere help create a welcoming space both for individual living and shared experiences. This is complimented by roof terraces and a green-courtyard. Two steel and one wooden staircase tie the whole building together.
